Over the past week, Ivaylo Vasilev, President of Rotary Club Sofia-Balkan, attended the opening meetings of the Interact clubs at the Sofia High School of Mathematics (SMG) and the 73rd High School. Both events followed a similar, inspiring path.
The clubs invited students from 9th to 12th grade who expressed interest in learning about Interact’s mission, participating in volunteer initiatives, giving back, and developing their leadership skills through club projects. It was particularly impressive to see both the enthusiastic ninth-graders and the seniors who, despite not being formal members in previous years, have consistently supported the clubs’ causes.
Each student had the opportunity to introduce themselves, while the club boards engagingly shared stories of their successful projects, such as SMG’s “Buy and Donate” and the “Donate a Book” initiative at the 73rd School, while also discussing their new ideas and the challenges they face in their work.
Rotary Club Sofia-Balkan President Ivaylo Vasilev introduced the students to the Rotary organization, Club Sofia-Balkan, and some of their most significant projects. Time was also dedicated to exploring opportunities for international youth exchanges, District funding for initiatives, and collaboration with other Interact, Rotaract, and, of course, Rotary clubs.
The official part of the meetings concluded in a friendly atmosphere with pizza and wishes for a successful and fruitful new school year.
These opening meetings once again demonstrated that Interact is a hub for inspired and active young people, ready to learn, grow, and donate their time and energy for the benefit of society.
